Additional Insulation Services Provided

Along with offering insulation services, our family owned company also provides additional services such as air sealing, sound deadening, fresh air ventilation, home energy assessment and ice dam control or removal.

Air sealing services are performed in two steps: weather stripping and caulking. Caulking fills cracks and gaps on stationary door and window frames while weather stripping seals a home’s moving parts such as windows and doors. The main goal of air sealing is to prevent air leakage which lets in cold, heat, mold, mildew or allergens.

Sound deadening is achieved by installing specialized insulation products which diminish and muffle sound waves. Installing sound deadening insulation within a home may be important for work from home offices, recording studios, musician’s practice rooms or a peaceful meditation room. Sound deadening insulation prevents outside noises from being heard within and prevents noise transfer between inner rooms.

Fresh air ventilation can be added to a building’s existing HVAC in order to distribute fresh clean air throughout the structure. Air purification and filtration systems can be added on for additional air cleansing power, which has become an increasingly important health safety procedure in preventing the COVID-19 virus.

A home energy assessment is a series of diagnostic tests which expose any potential energy deficient areas in a building. The assessment evaluates indoor air quality, energy usage, energy loss and combustion safety. Home energy assessment tests include: blower door, thermal imaging, combustion safety and indoor air quality.

Ice dams are created when frozen water becomes built up on the eaves or edges of a roof which then turn into thick sheets of ice and icicles. Our company prevents ice dams by properly sealing, venting and insulating the attic. Ice dam control and removal is an important service which protects roofs and attics from water damages, rotting decking,  loss of shingles, gutter damages, leaks in roofing, mold and mildew, structural damages and deterioration of existing insulation.

    Our Additional Services Include:

Air sealing closes off gaps inside a building which blocks drafts, condensation, air leakage, reduces moisture, and prevents pests.

Air sealing closes off gaps in:

    • Forced air ductwork
    • Electrical fixtures
    • Exterior walls
    • Rim joists
    • Windows
    • Box sills
    • Doors

Air sealing a home essentially closes off every crack, door or window left open to the outside elements.

Insulation has many purposes, including improving comfort and energy efficiency. One more important function of insulation is sound deadening, which diminishes noises from passing cars, neighbors, barking dogs, and interior sounds between rooms.

Sound deadening (muffling and diminishing sound waves) is accomplished by installing specialized types of insulation, while sound proofing (completely blocking sound waves) is achieved through the use of additional materials other than insulation.

Many various insulation products can be used in order to deaden sound: fiberglass, open cell spray foam, rockwool, K13, Monoglass, Sonoglass and denim. Each product offers a different Sound Transmission Class.

STC or Sound Transmission Class is the rating of a product’s efficiency in reducing noise between ceilings, walls, floors, windows and doors. Determine the STC level needed for the room and insulate with the product best suited to reach the effect.

    STC Levels

    • 25 STC: A conversation spoken at a regular tone of voice is understood and heard.
    • 30 STC: A conversation spoken in a loud tone of voice can be heard and understood.
    • 35 STC: A conversation spoken in a loud tone of voice can be heard, but is indecipherable.
    • 40 STC: A conversation spoken in loud tone of voice sounds like a whisper.
    • 50 STC: Loud sounds are barely audible.
    • 60 STC: Noise cannot be heard as this level is considered soundproofed.

An energy audit consists of a series of diagnostic tests used to evaluate the energy efficiency of a home or business. By exposing any potential energy loss, our technicians can then insulate the deficient areas, creating a more comfortable environment and reducing utility costs.

    The tests include:

Blower Door: Blower door tests determine the amount of air entering or exiting from the structure. A forceful blower fan is attached to a door frame on the exterior of the building. The fan begins blowing out air and lowering the interior air pressure.

Once the interior air pressure is lower than that of the exterior, any gaps or cracks within the building begin to draw in the outside air, revealing trouble spots and drafts within the structure.

Thermal Imaging: Thermal imaging inspections scale interior walls with a thermal image device in order to find temperature differences and missing insulation. This inspection is generally performed in conjunction with a blower door test. The air escaping the structure appears as black streaks on the thermal imaging device, exposing the weak points within the building.

Combustion Safety: Combustion safety tests are conducted with a monometer tool, which evaluates the structure for any gas leaks and determines that all combustible appliances are adequately vented and working efficiently.

Indoor Air Quality: Indoor air quality tests investigate the indoor air quality for pollutants such as excess moisture, volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, and radon.

A fresh air ventilation system is hooked up to the HVAC in order to distribute clean air throughout the building. After spray foam or an air seal has been added to a structure, air can no longer enter a building through gaps or cracks and is instead brought in through a fresh air ventilation system.

Signs a building does not have enough air circulation:

    • Musty Smells
    • Mold Growth Is Present
    • Cooking Smells Linger After Meals
    • Dust Accumulates Just After Cleaning
    • Windows Or Surfaces Are Wet With Condensation
    • Constant Heath Issues Such As: Fatigue, Runny Noses, Coughing, Sneezing, And Headaches

Circulating ventilated exterior air into a building diminishes airborne pollutants such as pollen, mold, dirt, and viruses such as COVID-19. A fresh air ventilation system brings in fresh air year round without affecting the temperature of the building. Air purification  and filtration are options that can be added to the fresh air ventilation in order to increase health protection.

Differences between Fresh Air Ventilation, Air Purification, and Air Filtration:

Fresh Air Ventilation draws in fresh exterior air which is circulated throughout the structure by the HVAC system.

    • Balanced Ventilation System: exterior air is drawn into the building through fans at the same rate at which the air is departing while sustaining a constant level of air pressure.
    • Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV): draws moist air from restroom vents outside while concurrently bringing exterior air into the building. Both airstreams intersect and an energy transfer is conducted between the interior and exterior air, regulating air temperature without the use of energy or modifying the temperature of the structure.
    • Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV): throughout warmer seasons, ERV ventilation systems reduce airborne moisture and cool the air within the structure. During colder seasons, ERV ventilation systems increase air moisture and warm the air within the building.

Air Filtration which is installed with the current HVAC system blocks pollutant particles from entering the building by passing the air through fine media filters. Filters should be changed yearly.

Air Purification is achieved by adding a UV light inside the HVAC system which eliminates and kills close to one hundred percent of airborne viruses, germs, and molds. Lightbulbs should be changed yearly.

Our company installs, examines and tests fresh air ventilation systems. Circulating fresh air through a building:

    • Eliminates odors and keeps the building smelling fresh
    • Stops pollutants from accumulating indoors
    • Eliminates allergens, dust, mold, dander, and pollen
    • Circulates and reduces moisture which prevents mildew or mold

Our company offers Ice Dam Control and Removal services. Ice dams are an accumulation of icicles or ice hanging from the eaves or edges of a roof.

In an under insulated building, warm air rises up to the attic, melting the ice or snow. Once melted, water trickles down to the edges of the roof, which freezes into icicles and dams.

Removing and preventing ice dams is important, as they can create these various damages:

    • Roofing leaks
    • Rotted decking
    • Structural damage
    • Insulation deterioration
